One of the biggest challenges facing businesses today is a shortage of skilled people. Yet, our country faces a crisis of unemployment. Bridging the gap requires sustained effort and commitment from employers and learners alike.
Developing employee skills is a key to success
Anyone in business will tell you that having the right people with the right skills is essential to supporting business growth and contributing to the business bottom-line. It’s also essential to be able to help high-potential employees to achieve their career aspirations, thereby growing your talent pipeline and retaining critical employees. For many businesses, developing employee skills is key to success, yet this also needs to be done in a way that contributes to their B-BBEE scores at the same time. At TLC, we have seen that juggling these requirements isn’t easy! So, we have found smart and flexible ways to help you to meet these needs. How exactly do we do that?
SETA-accredited and non-merSETA registered provider
Firstly, did you know that TLC is a SETA-accredited training company? Specifically, we are accredited through Services SETA for two learnership qualifications, Generic Management NQF 4 and Business Administration NQF 3. These skills find application in all industries, not just service-related ones, and so we have the privilege of working with dynamic businesses in a variety of industries. Not only that, we also partner with other accredited training providers to allow us to facilitate Learnerships that we ourselves are not accredited for. Recently, we also successfully completed the application process to be registered with merSETA (Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services SETA) as a Non-merSETA Skills Development Provider. This enables our merSETA clients to process their grant applications for funding.
New Offerings
But that’s not all. In line with opportunities identified by our clients, we are in the process of extending our accreditation scope to include other learnership qualifications such as Generic Management NQF 3, Generic Management NQF 5 and Business Administration NQF 4. This increases the flexibility of our offerings, to be able to adapt in tune with different client needs. For those who are familiar with running learnerships, none of this will sound particularly unique. What we have done differently is to align TLC’s internationally-accredited offerings in specialised areas like Lean Six Sigma, with SETA-accredited programmes. In these cases, there is no equivalent SAQA qualification and we have had to be innovative to find a solution to this issue! For example, our flagship Lean FOCUS course has been structured as a Problem-Solving Skills Programme, aligned to relevant SAQA unit standards. The solution includes theoretical and activity-based learning with a portfolio of evidence and assessments which is registered with SETA. In other words, the participants not only learn the theory and skill but also apply the learnings in their workplace. This Skills Programme then ticks all the boxes – not only do you score as part of your B-BBEE skills development requirements, you see real business impact too, as the participants are required to make improvements with the help of a coach who mentors and assesses them for tangible business results.
We provide all SETA administration support required and manage this internally with our expert facilitators and experienced Learnership support team, to ensure the qualification requirements are met. We are always looking for innovative ways like this to support our clients with their business needs. If you need to train team members in critical skills like Problem-Solving or team leadership, we can help.
